Toyota Is Optimistic about Its "Partner Robot" Business

Toyota Engineering

Toyota is interested in the robotics segment and seeks to promote it in the future.
Toyota Motor Corp. has several ambitious plans that will transform the current robotics segment, the company wishes to establish itself as a key player in the robotics domain. The core idea is to assist the people with their everyday activities.
As per the company it is assumed that they can actually deploy their expertise in a domain that they have coined as “partner robots” similar to what they have been doing in the automotive sector. The company has robotics engineers that are almost 150 in number where their total staff across the globe is 300,000 but they are investing heavily in research and development.
The company announced the previous month an investment worth $1 billion in a research and analytics company that is being headed by Gill Pratt an expert belonging to the Silicon Valley to bolster robotics and artificial intelligence. Moreover, they are also known to be working with Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Stanford University to work on robotics.
according to Akifumi Tamaoki, the General Manager of the company’s partner robot segment, "We are preparing for a future in which people may not be able to drive cars, or they may need artificial intelligence to support them to drive, and once they get off their cars they may need help from partner robots.”
The government in Japan is investing on robotics since it has growth prospects. Japan is known for aging at a rampant pace in comparison to other industrial nations. Other companies have also paved their way like Softbank corp. an internet based company that is retailing humanoids that can carry out simple conversations.
While addressing The Associated Press at a robot show taking place in Tokyo this week, Mr. Tamaoki seized the opportunity to explain that the company had a lot of interest in the robotics segment since a decade now. They were also using the robots in their own manufacturing plants but now it is prominent that the segment has become a viable business.
Another motivation for the company to deploy this technology comes from the tech and auto sector that have been making use of artificial intelligence to come up with self driven cars.
According to Yahoo News, “Google Inc. is trialing driverless vehicles and Toyota's Japanese rival Nissan Motor Co. is especially confident about the technology with plans to start selling such vehicles by 2020.”
Hence the prospect this industry has is tremendous with a lot of opportunity for growth if capitalized in the right manner.
