IBM's Latest 70-nanometer chip To Be Launched Soon

IBM to come up with a 7-nanometer chip soon powering cloud computing and smartphones.

International Business Machines Corporation is a renowned name in the world of computers where they are known for marketing and manufacturing computer related software and hardware. The company has now made another major announcement which many analysts consider it to be a massive breakthrough in terms of computer chips.

A growth has been seen in the way IBM used to function. Earlier, the company only used to manufacture personal computers along with hard drives to individual customers. However, now their business has evolved to a great extent where they have now started to focus on bigger games like cloud computing, business intelligence, data analytics along with other businesses that is churning profits. The company now knows what it needs to do in order to establish its roots further in the industry.

As reported, the tech behemoth has now revealed the first 7-nanometer chip which is one of a kind across the globe. This chip is miraculous since it will have the ability to boost the computing power of devices as minute as smartphones to spacecraft. The chip has the potential to accommodate more than 20 billion tiny transistors and switches that has resulted in a surge in terms of the computing ability.

International Business Machines Corp is extremely optimistic about this venture where it believes that the future of the mobile industry and cloud computing is reliant on this chip with other technologies. The company was successful in making this chip once they invested almost $3 billion parallel to Samsung Electronics Co Ltd and Global Foundries situated at the State University of New York.

The tech behemoth believes that this is actually a breakthrough in the world of computer chips where these new chips denote a 50% increase in terms of performance and power when compared to the regularly used 14 and 22-nanometer chips.

Mr. Michael Liehr, VP of Research and Innovation at the University of New York stated, “Enabling the first 7nm node transistors is a significant milestone for the entire semiconductor industry as we continue to push beyond the limitations of our current capabilities.”

IBM is still working on this chip and soon will be able to launch it for the masses. This has become a source of anticipation where many analyst and tech affiliates are keeping an eye on the company so that they can study the course of IBM once it launches the chip.

Is Apple's R&D Department The Uncrowned King Of The Tech World?

Apple does not really spend huge amounts on research and development but creates demand of its product.

Apple Inc. is said to be a tech giant that has a fairly innovative trajectory in the tech world. The company has a wide variety of products and service that encompass various devices from smartwatches to smartphones. The question here arises so as to how the company succeeds to retain its position in this evolving market considering the fact that relatively high amount is spent on research and development per annum. Apple products are well known in the industry for their innovative functionality and designed, thus the device being priced heftily comes as no surprise.

Apple is a competitor to several companies in the smartphone world where Samsung Electronics Co. is one of those companies that is the core rival of Apple Inc. the company also has a top notch operating which is also said to be a big threat to Google Inc.’s open sourced Android OS. The company has now taken a new path where it has started to develop smartwatches in order to further dent the monopoly of Android bases wearable tech industry. The company is known to be relatively spendthrift when it comes to dealing with competition right, left and center.

The company has already spent millions of dollar in research and development. However, they fall relatively short when comparing the amount of money that us being spent by rivals. The company claims that they have already spent $7.1 billion in terms of research and development, this is extremely less than Samsung or Google that have spent $12.6 billion and $10.5 billion over the same time span .

So now it is extremely clear that Apple is not really spending as much as others perceive that it is investing. So now the question is how the company has succeeded in meeting the user expectations. The reason is fairly simple; the company has showed several ways which depict their ability to publicize products in an exceptional manner that users actually crave for their products. They do not really act in a way that fulfills the consumer demand, but they have the potential to create the demand of their products by positioning them in a way that makes users demand them.

So this actually means that those companies who spend a relatively high amount on research and development do not really mean that they have the potential to do well or innovate more. This means that new startups need to focus on the product more than R&D, but every company designs its own strategy in a manner that changes the game for them.

Microsoft Collaborates With Android Tablet Manufacturers

Microsoft collaborates with Android tablet makers to preinstall office apps.

Google Inc. has succeeded in maintaining its dominance over the market since the time it has acquired Android Inc. in 2005. This acquisition turned out to be a game changer for them. Thus, this comes as no surprise that Google has succeeded in becoming the frontrunner in terms of providing an enriching user experience. However, at this point of time Microsoft Corporation is working towards a turnaround. The company has decided to break Google’s monopoly by slowly making their way to Android by devising several applications that will not just be useful but are highly sought after.

Companies like Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd, Sony Corp., LG Display Co Ltd. are some of the few firms that currently use the Android platform to launch their high-end products and services. However, despite this Apple Inc. has been doing relatively well in comparison to them. One of the reasons behind this is that it has now become relatively difficult to discriminate between a lot of Android products since they bear a striking resemblance in terms of features and specifications. So now big companies have also started to exert pressure on the relatively smaller brands like OnePlus that are the relatively high end but economical.

Although a number of companies have devised ways to make their products stand out in the market while the others are still struggling. MSFT products and services have now collaborated with 20 android tablet manufacturers asking them to pre-install Office apps in these devices. This is a great achievement for Microsoft itself as it allows them to compete with the Android market. Moreover, Android users will benefit as well as they will now have a better user experience along with a number of apps and options that they have not been able to avail earlier.

Microsoft collaboration will thus allow the tablet manufacturers to install the application on tablets such as Microsoft Excel, Word, OneDrive, Skype, Powerpoint, OneNote on the upcoming devices.

The Corporate Vice President of Microsoft assured clients by stating, : “Today I'm excited to announce that 20 additional global and local OEM partners, including LG, Sony, Haier, Positivo and Wortman, will make Microsoft productivity applications and services available on their Android tablets. These 31 partners will offer Android tablets pre-installed with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, OneDrive and Skype in the near future. They will be available on a new LG tablet, and Sony will include them on their Xperia Z4 tablet in the next 90 days".

Microsoft growth is likely to grow with this collaboration resulting in a steady stream of revenues.
